Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters at Oxford Performing Arts Center

The Boxmasters return to the road in support of their 21st album, In The Bay, released June 12. Written and inspired by time spent in Morro Bay, California, the record blends the band’s signature 1960s rock sensibilities with a strong influence from The Beach Boys, offering a warm, melodic homage to their musical heroes. Longtime collaborator Teddy Andreadis joins on piano, adding vintage textures to the album’s sound.

Kicking off in June, the “2026 Morro Rock Tour” runs through August, featuring stops at legendary venues and fan-favorite cities across the country. Formed in 2006, The Boxmasters—led by J.D. Andrew and Bud Thornton—have built a prolific catalog rooted in classic rock traditions, drawing from influences like The Beatles, Byrds, and beyond.

Known for their dynamic live shows, the band has toured extensively across the U.S. and internationally, sharing stages with icons such as The Who, ZZ Top, and Steve Miller, and continues to grow a devoted global following.

“I chose to survive,” Melissa Etheridge declares on “Being Alive,” the jubilant opening track of her 17th studio album, Rise, and the sentiment carries the weight of everything that followed her last record of new material, 2019’s The Medicine Show.

 

The years in between were anything but quiet. Unable to tour during the pandemic, Etheridge launched more than 200 episodes of Etheridge TV, wrote her memoir Talking to My Angels, and triumphed on Broadway with her one-woman show Melissa Etheridge: My Window. She also founded the Etheridge Foundation, focused on plant-based approaches to illness and addiction, and starred in the 2024 Paramount+ docuseries I’m Not Broken. Through it all, she carried profound personal grief — most devastatingly the 2021 opioid death of her son, Beckett.

His stand-out hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” has been in the top five on the country singles charts three times (1991, 2001, and 2003), giving it the distinction of being the only song in any genre of music to achieve that feat. It reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart shortly after 9/11. Known for his stand-out patriotism and support of the U.S. military, Greenwood has been honored with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s National Patriot’s Award and entertained troops on more than 30 USO Tours.
